Devi Talab Mandir
Jalandhar is an ancient city in the Punjab state of India. Jalandhar was previously known as Jullundur, It was the capital of Trigarttas at the times of Mahabharat wars. It has a population of almost a million. Jalandhar is about 375 km from Delhi. Jalandhar is named after Jalandhara, a demon king, who lives in water. As his name suggests Jal (Water) and Adhar (in). Jalandhar was the capital of Punjab until 1953. Chandigarh replaced it then. There are many tourist attractions in Jalandhar city. Including Devi Talab Mandir. Devi Talab Mandir is the most outstanding as well as most active place of Jalandhar city. A large number of Devotees as well as travelers visit here every day.
Story Behind Devi Talab Mandir
Sati was the Daughter of king Daksha Prajapati. She married to Lord Shiva against the wish of her father. One day King Daksha was having a Yagna but he did not invite Lord Shiva and Sati. She wanted to go in Yagna, but Lord Shiva refused her. Then she had fought with Lord Shiva and go there. When she reached in Yagna King Daksha insulted Shiva. She could not have borne the insult of her husband Shiva. She jumped into the Yagna fire and killed herself.
When Lord Shive came to know about Sati’s death, He became very hatred. Lord Shiva went to Daksha Prajapati’s palace then He took the body of Sati into his arms and started Tandava (The Dance of destruction ). In order to save the universe, Lord Vishnu pissed off the body of Sati with Sudarshan Chakra then body parts of Sati fell at different places and these places are popular as Shaktipeeth. Devi Talab Mandir (Temple) is one of the Shaktipeeth among the 52 Shaktipeeths. Sati’s right breast fell here.
About Devi Talab Mandir
The famous Devi Talab Mandir is in the heart of Jalandhar city. It is just 1 km away from Railway Station. Devi Talab Mandir is 200 years old. This is dedicated to goddess Durga. It is the most ancient and active temple of Jalandhar. It has pyramidal Shikhara of Garbha Griha. Sikharas are covered with plates of gold. The structure of these plates has been modernized. The prime attraction of the temple is a water pond. It is considered to be searched by the Hindu devotees. The Devotees take a holy dip in the pond.
Goddess Kali Temple
Goddess Kali Mandir (Temple) is the another temple on the other side of the Devi Talab Mandir. The temple is one of the Shaktipeeths among 52 shaktipeeth. Sati’s right breast fell at this place.
Bhaisan Bharav is another important temple of Lord Shiva. Situated in the surroundings of Devi Talab Mandir.
Hariballabh Sangeet Sammelan
Hariballabh Sangeet Sammelan is the famous Mela (fair). It takes place in the month of December every year in Devi Talab Mandir. Famous Classical singers as well as music players from different part of the country come here.
Cave Temple is another prominent temple in the limits of Devi Talab Mandir. The structure of this temple is an exact ditto of Amarnath Temple. The people , who find difficulty in talking up Amarnath Yatra, they can comfortably visit this place.
